FOLK PUNK => Passionfruit Hobo-Train Music: The Eclectic Bastards do not abuse kittens. We do not run over manatees with motorboats, nor do we condone excessive fishing with dynamite. We do, however, intend to rock everyone's body while we try to touch your heart and gently affect your way of thinking. Before there was such a thing as FOLK PUNK, we asked you not to waste time trying to categorize us in some genre or another... but, lo' and behold! We didn't end up being the only band that followed down this dark path. Still we can play an acoustic set at a coffeshop or a screeching rock show in a downtown club. In effect, please listen to a few different tracks, as the styles are much different between songs, and see what YOU think. Anyway, the genre -> sub -> sub -> sub-genre thing is just pretty damn annoying and an unnecessary crutch for anyone who really knows music. N'est-ce pas?
We are a three piece, originally from North Carolina, with 13 years of playing, recording, and touring under our belts. We also have "annex" (various people that play with us a different times) that we love to have along for the ride. We transplanted to the west coast, Portland, OR in 2002. Jesse went to law school, Josh went to art school, "Daddy" Lee knocks 'em dead every day.
Certainly, you have not seen the last of the Bastards. Something clicked, as it sometimes does, when someone informed us that, "Hey. There is now more than one or two bands that are doing the same thing you guys do." That is encouraging. While, of course, we very much enjoyed having people scratch their heads about FOLK PUNK back in the day, we are elated that it is now a genre. I think it is because we like French words.
